Zhan Zhenyu’s Mother

Summary:

In the early hours of April 29th, a sudden and devastating fire completely destroyed the home of Zhan Zhenyu, a piano student at our school. Zhenyu’s father suffered 80% burns in the fire and is still fighting for his life, while his mother sustained 50% burns and Zhenyu himself has 20% burns. Currently, the entire family of three is hospitalized. Facing the shadow of death, the immense pain from their injuries, and the enormous medical expenses, they are overwhelmed and helpless, especially given their already precarious financial situation.

After the incident:

As soon as our school learned of this tragic news, we contacted the hospital where Zhan Zhenyu’s father is being treated to understand the extent of the injuries and inquire about the family's medical expenses. The attending physician informed us that the estimated total cost for their ongoing treatment is around 3 million RMB. We immediately organized a school-wide meeting to discuss fundraising for the Zhan family. We mobilized all parents, teachers, and community organizations and individuals, collecting donations through WeChat, Alipay, and bank accounts. With everyone’s support, as of May 3rd, Liu Jian Art has raised a total of 310,000 RMB for Zhan Zhenyu’s family.

Event Recap:
On the evening of April 28th, a sudden and violent storm accompanied by heavy hail struck this Dragon City, causing significant damage to the residents of Changzhou. At 3:00 AM that night, misfortune befell Zhan Zhenyu (a piano student at Liu Jian Art) and his family.
A fire, sparked by the severe weather, engulfed their home, causing severe burns to all three family members. In a desperate bid to protect his wife and child, Zhan’s father rushed into the inferno to rescue them. Fearing the explosion of a gas canister inside the house, he entered the flames once more in an attempt to extinguish the fire, suffering 80% burns over his body. After being rescued, he was taken to the First Affiliated Hospital of Shanghai Second Military Medical University and remains in critical condition. The mother sustained 50% burns, and the child has 20% burns. They are being treated at Wujin Hospital in the city. In addition to the immense pain from their injuries, the family faces the daunting burden of substantial medical expenses. The estimated cost for their continued treatment approaches 3 million RMB. The mother, whose income is minimal, repeatedly told the doctors that she preferred to forego medication and prioritize her child's treatment.
